Principal's Address and Welcome

Bankstown West is a community which is warm, supportive and encouraging and focuses on the development of the whole child’s academic excellence, social-emotional growth, creativity and well-being.

It is a community where teachers are passionate and committed to improving children’s educational outcomes and children are known, valued and cared for. It is a community where parents and teachers work together, collaborating as partners in each child’s educational journey.

We repeatedly get results in numeracy and literacy in the top percentile when compared with like schools and frequently our children’s results in NAPLAN are above the national and state average.

Importantly, we also focus on ensuring our children are happy; having built friendships, gained success, found joy and had fun.

Highlights across 2024 include:

  • Our NAPLAN results are in the top 20th percentile when compared against like schools for both reading and numeracy.
  • Check-In results across Years 3-6 show a pleasing trend of improvement and growth from year to year.
  • Children’s Tell Them from Me survey results, which measure children’s well-being from Years 4-6, shows an increase of 10% in sense of belonging.
  • Children across the school were successful in public speaking, spelling bees, the Cantabile choir at the Opera House, PSSA, sporting competitions up to State level and six children gaining positions to Selective High Schools.
  • We continued our strong partnerships with Bell Shakespeare, Berry St, Monkey Baa theatre, Woodville Alliance, sports clinics, GOAL, Learning Links and Got Game thus ensuring we were giving our children rich and varied learning experiences.

From our youngest learners taking their first moves towards independence in Kindergarten to our oldest students preparing for their next chapter in high school, each child feels valued, supported and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
